The River of Five Colors

Caño CristalesCaño Cristales, also known as the “River of five colors”, is considered by many as the most beautiful river in the world.
Located in the “Serrania de la Macarena”, in northern Colombia, it does not look any different than any other river for most of the year.

Caño CristalesThere is a short time of the year though, just a few weeks from September to November, between the wet and dry seasons, during which this river becomes magical: the moss and algae on its bottom, helped by the low water levels, get warmed by the sunlight.

This process makes the Macarenia Clavigera, a unique plant that covers the river bed, bloom and turn a bright red.
Surrounded by the blue water and by green and yellow sands, this explosion of colors will leave you breathless.
