Hidden Beach: a jewel made by… bombs!

Parque Nacional Islas MarietasUsed in the beginning of the 20th century as a target practice field by the Mexican government, the Marieta Islands, off the shore of Puerto Vallarta, have gained something interesting from those bombings.
Instead of destruction and ruins, a huge circular crater formed, which hides one of the most secluded beaches in the world: the “Hidden Beach” or the “Playa del Amor” as the locals call it.
The only ways to access it are by helicopter, or by a small opening on its perimeter, which can only be accessed during low tide, and only by swimming or scuba diving.

The Marieta Islands are also a bird sanctuary and a marine sanctuary, which makes the waters teem with colorful fish, rays and sea life.
